Cleaning your washing machine

I know what you are probably thinking.... I need to clean the thing that cleans?! Unfortunately, the answer is yes.

BUT it's not as daunting as it seems!

Washing machines and dryers, just like any other appliance, need to be cleaned on a regular basis to keep them working at their best. Most newer machines have a self-clean function which makes it even easier!

If you don't happen to have a washer/dryer that looks like it is from the future, no worries, you can still get them clean with just a little bit more work. Instead of the simple push of a self-clean button, you have to add bleach or a washer tablet and run an empty wash with hot water on the longest cycle.

Make sure you also clean the machines filter if you have easy access to it (Check out the manual for full details)

And for either space age or prehistoric washers, wipe down all the rims, seals and liners.

For dryers, remove and soak and scrub your lint filter with a de-greasing soap & inspect and clean the filter and hose areas.

Your owner's manual can give you more detailed instructions specific to your models!

Cleaning should be done once a month.

Happy cleaning!
