Times when you may need to bleach:
-Yeast Infection
-Ammonia smell
-Pre-loved diapers
-After a strip
In order to bleach, you need to start with clean diapers. When doing a bleach soak we want to only bleach the inserts. If you want to freshen the covers you can always add 1/2 cup of bleach to a wash with them.
You will need to use disinfecting bleach with at least 5.25% sodium hypochlorite as the active ingredient.
*Splashless bleaches do not properly disinfect*
The soak should last 30-45 mins (Max) in cold water!
Here is the proper dilution of bleach to water:
Top Loader (Non-hE):
Small: 1/3 cupMedium: 1/2 cup
Large/XL: 3/4 cup
Average Bathtub:
1/2 full: 1/2 cup3/4 full: 3/4cup- 1cup
*Note* Measure from the top of the tub, regardless of where the overflow is.
Smaller Vessel:
1 Gallon: 1 Tablespoon For each gallon of cold water (up to 5 gal), add 1 Tbs. bleach.Once the soak is done you must rinse the inserts in hot water, wring them out and do a hot wash with detergent. This is one of the reasons we don't recommend soaking the covers, we don't want to expose them to the heat required for deactivating the bleach!
