All of our reusable pads (HyPs Menstrual Pads, Indiewear for Incontinence, and Interlabial Pads) are designed to wick moisture inside the pad and leave the side that touches your skin feeling dry to the touch.
General guideline: change every 4–8 hours, even if the pad doesn't feel saturated — this helps maintain freshness and hygiene, similar to standard guidance for any period or incontinence product. From there, your actual capacity and flow will tell you whether you need to change more or less often within that window.
For menstrual use (HyPs):
Our HyPs Max holds 80–90 mL, compare that to a super tampon, which holds around 10 mL. On lighter days, many customers comfortably stretch toward the 8-hour mark. On heavier days, or if you're passing clots, you'll likely want to change closer to every 4 hours, the same way you would with any period product on a heavy-flow day.
For incontinence use (Indiewear):
Capacity ranges from 100 mL (Men's Regular) to 250 mL (Unisex). Change based on your typical leak volume, if you're consistently leaking close to capacity before the 8-hour mark, that's your cue to change sooner. Lighter leakers may comfortably go the full stretch.
For Interlabial Pads:
Change frequency depends on use case, as a first line of defense for heavy discharge, a backup to a menstrual cup, or to distribute flow more evenly across a menstrual pad. Since interlabial pads rest between your labia rather than being inserted, there's no associated health risk (like TSS) even with longer wear (8 hours), but if it starts to feel damp or you're due for your regular pad change, that's a good time to swap it too.
Overnight use: it's fine to wear any of our reusable pads through a full night's sleep (roughly 8–10 hours), as long as it's appropriately sized for your flow or leak volume.
Signs it's time to change, regardless of the clock: if the pad feels fully saturated, you notice any odor, or it's simply been longer than 8 hours — those are all good moments to swap in a fresh one.
