How to remove odors and stains from reusable pads

With proper wash and care, odors and stains should not occur on your reusable cloth pads. If you are noticing unusual stinks and stains, check out this blog article to get a better idea of what might be going on.

While rare, mold and stinks and stains can happen with any product that gets wet and stored such as in our wet bags until wash day. If you are experiencing any stinks and stains:

  • Start with clean pads.

  • Use disinfecting bleach with at least 5.25% sodium hypochlorite as the active ingredient.

  • Avoid splashless bleaches, as they do not properly disinfect.

  • Soak the pads in cold water for 30-45 minutes (max).

  • Dilute the bleach according to the size of your washing machine or vessel

  • Once the soak is done, rinse the pads in hot water, wring them out, and do a hot wash with detergent.

Looking for a more natural solution to quickly refresh pads (for example, if you forgot to wash them for a couple weeks but there are no signs of mold)? Try a vinegar soak: mix 1 part white vinegar to 4 parts cold water, and let (clean) pads soak for 30 minutes, then repeat regular wash routine.
