How many pads do I need for my cycle or incontinence care?

Great question! So much depends on your personal needs and comfort. Most customers tell us they use at most 4 pads per day of their menstrual cycle, once they have the right size for them. Based on that, it depends on how often you want to wash, and how long your cycle typically is.

If you are using these pads for postpartum care or incontinence, you may need to change them more often.

During the postpartum period, it is recommended that disposable pads be changed every 1-3 hours during the first 3 days, and every 3-5 hours on days 4-10. While our customers report not needing to change their HyPs as often as disposable pads during their regular menstrual cycle, for your postpartum care we do recommend following the same frequent change recommendations as with disposables, for your health and healing.

So, if you plan to use HyPs during your postpartum period, you may need more than the recommended 4 per day.

For incontinence and our Indiewear Line, it truly does depend on your unique leaky human needs. Someone with light bladder leakage from a good belly laugh or surprise sneeze, for example, might need fewer pads than someone with Overactive Bladder or Overflow Incontinence.
